LO1: Task 2 Analysis of audio-visual promos - Film Trailer (The Conjuring)
Purpose - The purpose of this trailer is to advertise the film towards the target audience. There is also they purpose of matching the trailer towards the film, so if the film is going to try and scare the audience if it is a horror then the trailer has to have the same effect to make the audience want to go see the film. So in the case the trailer has to be scary and chilling without revealing any important bits of the story.
form - The form of this audio visual promo is a film trailer. This form is used to show small parts of the film that the audience will be interested in and put them together to advertise the film. it is also used to advertise the produces and companies behind the film and to give the target audience an idea about the story line of the film.
content - The content of this trailer matches the genre that the trailer is set for. For example if you look at the setting in the trailer it is in the house in the middle of no where which stays with in the stereotypical idea of a horror film because if something happened to the characters then there is no one around to help them. other contents of the film is the props in it, the film is set in 1971 so you see the use of a match for a source of light in part of the trailer but if it was set in modern day, i would expect the characters to use a phone screen or flash. This shows us that it has been set before the present day and is important to the audience.
meaning - The director has used different camera angles and editing effects to have a unique outcome for the final trailer. The director has used a lot of wide and long shots in this trailer so for the audience it would be easy to see if something was behind the characters, that the characters wouldn't know about. For example in the part when the mother goes into the room and we see the wardrobe slowly open in the background, this creates suspense for the audience but the character doesn't know any different. The use of black in the editing is also effective. I think that it is used because we relate the darkness to scary because you cant see whats in the dark and it relates to the horror genre well.
genre - the genre of this film trailer is horror because the film it is advertising is also horror so it has to stay with in the same genre. We know that the genre is horror because of the content with in the trailer. For example the use of music and sound effects and editing. I think that one of the ways you can tell the genre of the trailer is the colours and lighting used, in this trailer the shadows are used well so it looks dark and old and scary, but if it was a comedy there would be a use of bright colours and lighting
audience - The target audience are 18 and above due to it been rated R which means that some parts are to disturbing for younger people even though younger people will watch it. The target audience for this film will be lovers of the horror genre and like to get scared. people that are interested in films such as paranormal activity and others.
LO1: Task 2 Analysis of audio-visual promos - Film Trailer (Non-Stop)
Purpose - the purpose of this trailer is to advertise the film so the target audience will want to go see it. The purpose could also be to advertise the company that been producing the film such as universal or Warner bros etc. to cause brand recognition for the company to advertise other films that the company has produced. It could even be publicity for the actors in the film to get them further roles in other films in a similar or the same genre.
form - The form of this audio visual promo is a film trailer. This form is used to show small parts of the film that the audience will be interested in and put them together to advertise the film. it is also used to advertise the produces and companies behind the film and to give the target audience an idea about the story line of the film.
content - the content of the film trailer stays with in the genre that it is set in. For example if you look at the properties in the trailer we can see things such as a police badge, a bomb and a gun. When the audience sees them in this trailer they will know or guess that is is an action/thriller film and will expect other things with in this theme.
meaning - I think that the mise en scene tells us about the sort of film that this is. For example the setting of the film is on a plane stuck in the air and no one can get out, which keeps someone on the edge of there seat just as a director of a thriller film would want. I also think that the use of close ups are important to the trailer, for example the watch and gun when i see those in the trailer i know straight away that he's racing against time for some reason and there will be danger. This can keep the audience interested and wanting to see the full film.
genre - The genre of this film is action/thriller, i think this because of the well known actor that also stars in other thrillers and the content with in the trailer such as racing against time and weapons. I can also tell that the genre is action/thriller from the editing and lighting the use of shadows in the plane makes it look darker and mysterious which goes well with the genre.
audience - the target audience for this film will be people that love this type of genre, for example people that love films such as taken will want to watch this film. Another reason the audience would watch this film is the main actor in it. The film is rated PG-13 so most of the target audience will be older teenager and adults with some younger teenagers.
LO1: Task 2 Analysis of audio-visual promos - Film Trailer (Sinister)
Purpose - the purpose of this trailer is to advertise the film so the target audience will want to go see it. The purpose could also be to advertise the company that been producing the film such as universal or Warner bros etc. to cause brand recognition for the company to advertise other films that the company has produced. It could even be publicity for the actors in the film to get them further roles in other films in a similar or the same genre.
form - The form of the audio visual promo is a trailer. a trailer is when parts of the film that can show the story or meaning are put together to have the same effect as the film towards the audience. the editor would choose parts of the film that are scary to put them all together to scare the audience so they will want to see the film. And will give the audience an idea of the story line to the film.
content - The content of this trailer are very stereotypical to the genre that it is in. For example in unknown items that have been left in an empty house that have obviously been there for a while. This is something similar which you would see in this genre but it could be an old doll etc, which makes the audience understand what genre it is and what its about.
meaning - The mise en scene and camera angles and editing tell you a lot about the story and meaning behind a lot of things in the film. For example the lighting used in the trailer will make things come across more scary than they would in day light. Or the fast cut editing could keep the audience interested and trying to catch what is happening. The set of the trailer can also show some meaning to the story and make the audience think, for example some viewers could think about why they have moved houses? was there an issue with the previous house or are they running?
genre - the genre of this film trailer and film is Horror/Thriller the purpose of this genre is to keep the audience entertained as best as possible. instead of just watching a film that you just sit there watch horrors and thrillers pull the audience in and get them involved by either being sat on the edge of there seat or in the the back of there seat behind a pillow. The trailer has ironical items to represent genre for example the blood and fire could hint the genre to the audience.
audience - the target audience for this trailer are people that love horrors/thriller films and have watched other films like this, they could also be viewers that are interested in the actors that are in the film. The film is rated R so the target audience would be primarily 18 and above up to about the age of 60 becuase i cant imagine anyone older than that being interested in this type of film.
