LO1: Task 1 Analysis of audio-visual promos - Documentary

Purpose - The purpose of this documentary is is to entertain the audience and to raise awareness of what its about. it is also to inform people of the topic such as how people live in Africa and it shows a big difference to how people think about how they live compared to other people. A important purpose to this documentary is that it makes the audience think, which in turn gets them interested about watching it. And could also get the audience to think about how they could help the people in the documentary such as donating to the charities that help these people or even inspiring people to do something similar.

Form - The form of this piece is a documentary, a documentary is a factual video that follows certain people or things or events that are happening. Most of the time it is presented by someone that is narrating the footage or someone that has gone to the location with the camera crew to narrate it as its recorded. In this case there is no narrating over the documentary but i think that this can be very effective towards the viewer because you don't have anyone telling people what is happening and why you just have music to listen to and need to concentrate and think about whats on screen.

Content - The content of the documentary shows how the people live in Africa, it is mostly on the children of the village which makes the audience feel more involved with story because older people will relate the children in the documentary to their own children which would in turn make the audience think deeper into it when watching the documentary which in turn makes it more successful.

Meaning - the denotation of wide angles in this documentary can connote the that the children are alone and also the content of the documentary such as the beginning when the children are sweeping on the floor this could connote that they could be orphans and again alone in there house to defend for themselves which can be much more effective towards the target audience because it could be more emotional towards the adults watching it and could be successful due to the interaction with the audience.

Genre - this documentary is presented in a educational genre, telling the audience about how children live in different countries. Showing differences in how people live and showing how different it us to us, it is linked up with a charitable genre because even though it is a documentary and not an advert there is still a sense of sympathy that would be expected from the viewers. I think this because the footage connotes that they are less fortunate than others and need our help.

Target Audience - The target audience for this documentary would be people that have children and are able to donate such as middle aged adults with families. I think this because the documentary portrays how disadvantaged and unfortunate the children are over in Africa, and wants the audience to think into it. The adults would relate the children on the video to there own and would not want their children to be like that and therefore feel sorry for them.
